Does the idea of joining a group walk make you feel nervous? You’re not alone 💛

This October, we’re running a special Anxiety-Friendly Day Hike in the Peak District – created for women who experience anxiety and would like a safe, gentle first step into the outdoors with Adventure Queens.

✨ When: Sunday 5th October 2025
✨ Where: Peak District
✨ Who for: Women 18+ who experience anxiety (no diagnosis needed)
✨ Cost: £5 commitment fee (travel bursaries available)

What makes it different?
🌼 Small, supportive group
🌼 Relaxed pace with rest stops
🌼 Optional pre-hike Zoom & WhatsApp group to ease nerves
🌼 Led by an experienced walk leader & supported by a wilderness therapeutic practitioner
🌼 A free cuppa & cake to celebrate at the end

You’ll leave the day feeling more confident, connected, and proud of stepping outside your comfort zone.

Do you want to get outside more but are put off by the fear of not having the right kit, not feeling ‘adventurous enough’ or are simply not sure how to get started? One way that women can feel more encouraged is through other women.

Ordnance Survey is collaborating with @thisgirlcanuk as part of their Let’s Get Out There campaign to showcase that the great outdoors is for ALL women and they can get active how they like!

Ordnance Survey Champion @natashastarseeker is also a volunteer with female outdoorsy group Adventure Queens, and here she writes about how joining groups like this can help women build up confidence.

🌿 Feeling stuck at a crossroads?

This September, Adventure Queens is inviting 10 women to join us in the Peak District for a weekend of walking, reflection, and support — thanks to funding from the YHA Festival of Walking.

🗓️ 13–14 September 2025
📍 YHA Edale, Peak District
💚 Just £35, with travel bursaries available

This supportive residential retreat is for women navigating life transitions — such as career changes, divorce, or adjusting to life with or after children. It’s a chance to pause, connect, and gently explore what comes next.

Led by a wilderness therapeutic practitioner and a life coach, the weekend includes:
🚶‍♀️ Guided walks & solo time in nature
🌀 Coaching conversations & reflective prompts
🍲 Shared meals & relaxed evenings
💬 Peer support in a warm, inclusive space

This programme is funded by the YHA Festival of Walking, with the aim of making time in nature more accessible. We particularly welcome applications from women who might not usually be able to access something like this — including those on lower incomes or feeling isolated.

One of our Grant Winners Ashleigh is absolutely thrilled to have won the Adventure Queen Grant 2025! She says:
