Things are hotting up at AQ HQ as we look ahead to the Big Campout on 16 to 18 May 2025, sponsored by Alpkit. We will be pitching at the picturesque Shay gate farm campsite near Colne, Lancashire and we can’t wait for you to see it!
Whether you live close by or just feel like an excuse to explore a new part of the UK with fellow Adventure Queens, grab a ticket. You can stay for one night or two!
You can expect:
- Chats aplenty with other Adventure Queens.
- Learn from adventure experts in our dedicated skills sessions. Our very own AQ co-founder, Anna McNuff, will be running an Adventure Writing & Storytelling workshop. There will also a session offering tips and tricks for looking after your kit – much needed after a proper adventure!
- A sunset walk to round off the day’s activities.
- Campfire stories in the evening where you can hear tales from fellow Adventure Queens, fuelled by marshmallows over the fire, provided by us.
- Some bike-related fun.
- Explore the surrounding area with a leisurely ramble led by your fellow Adventure Queens.
- Lots of other fun and games with opportunities to win prizes.
On-site facilities, travel and parking
The site is a working farm and has toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a communal fridge. It is located in Laneshawbridge, just 2.5 miles outside of Colne. Do bring a good quality torch as parts of the site are unlit.
By car/van: There’s lots of space for parking on the site and we’ll give you more info on this when you arrive.
Carpooling is great for the environment and helping out fellow AQs! If you’re looking to set something up, just pop up a post in our event page.
By train: Colne, Nelson and Cononley are the closest train stations and a bus service runs which connects Burnley, Colne, Laneshawbridge and Skipton. There’s a direct footpath to the campsite from the bus stop in Laneshawbridge. Alternatively, put a shout out to see if you can grab a lift from anyone driving through!
The local area
There is plenty to do locally check out visitlancashire.com for some inspiration. The Pennine Way, the Yorkshire Dales, Pendle Hill and Gisburn Forest are some of the locals favourites.
Tickets
Ticket prices start at £25 for Saturday night or £40 for Friday and Saturday night. This covers the campout costs, booking fees, firewood and campfire goodies.
You can bag tickets through Eventbrite.
Please leave your little ones and pets at home and have a night or two away with Adventure Queens (all women over 18 years of age).

- Sleeping bag (plus liner, if you want an extra warm layer)
- Warm (and windproof) layers
- Waterproof jacket, if needed
- Walking shoes, if keen to join the rambling
- If the sun is out, any sunglasses, hat etc
- Head torch
- Any toiletries (and first aid, as needed)
- Rubbish bag (to help leave no trace!)
- Something to sit on for the campfire stories – use rubbish bag or bring fold-down campstool, if you have one (we’ll just be using our rubbish bags or backpacks)

Newbies
Most of our attendees come alone and many don’t know anyone yet. This is the perfect opportunity to meet wonderful like-minded women! If it would be helpful to have a chat beforehand just drop us a line on hello@adventurequeens.co.uk and we’d be happy to chat through any questions or concerns. We promise we’re a really friendly bunch 🙂
What happens if it rains? And even pouring?
Rain or shine, the campout will be on! Just bring your waterproofs and we’ll have a blast 🙂
I have more questions – who can I ask?
Feel free to post in our Facebook event and we’ll get back to you – no doubt if you’re wondering someone else is too!
Or if you prefer to ask it privately, drop us a line on hello@adventurequeens.co.uk
