On Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th January 2025, the Adventure Queens were delighted to go along to the Adventure Travel Show when it returned for the 25th edition of the show in London.

We were excited to have a stand at the show, which featured over 100 exhibitors under one roof.  Encompassing everything from UK-based adventures, through to exploring jungles, mountains, rivers and deserts across every continent.

Talks

There was an exciting content programme at the show. With three free-to-visit theatres featuring some of the UK’s most celebrated travellers sharing their incredible experiences, alongside leading experts giving advice on once-in-a-lifetime journeys to every corner of the world.

The Clipper Race Travel Stage was home to a team of travel and adventure experts ready and waiting to answer questions on a raft of practical subjects including staying healthy on your travels, family adventure holidays, women’s adventure trips, solo travel and planning incredible journeys by sail, on foot, canoe, kayak, bus and bike.

On the Saturday, Adventure Queen 2024 Grant Winner Sahir Permall gave a talk on the Clipper Race Travel Stage at 14:30. To a big crowd, Sahir discussed being one of the three winners of the annual grant, and how it gave her the confidence to set off on a 2,800 mile bike ride from Scotland to Turkey. She mentioned the trials and tribulations of the adventure, from Storm Kathleen to working through memories on the road.

“You don’t need tons of equipment or experience to do an adventure. You really can do these things with not very much,” said Sahir during the talk. “As my mileage and fitness went up, so did my confidence.”

On the Sunday, it was the turn of AQ Community Leader Nadia Weigh and her kayaking partner Kerry Lewis, to talk on the Clipper Stage. The pair discussed how, in April 2024, they set off on a 200km journey – from Lechlade in the Cotswolds to Teddington – to set a world record for the fastest female crew to kayak the length of the Thames (in less than 24 hours!). Nadia and Kerry talked about how they completed the journey in an amazing 21hrs and 33 minutes.

Both talks were extremely well received and invited lots of questions from the audience.

Meeting people

We had a great team of volunteers at the show. Nadia, Natasha, Emma, Heather, Sahir, Ade, Cara, Danielle and Jasmine all helped out on the stand. We were so pleased to let lots of new Queens know about what we are about, as well as some existing existing ones who popped by to say hello.

Nadia Weigh, Community Leader, said: “We had such positive feedback from attendees and exhibitors. All our volunteers were great ambassadors for Adventure Queens and really demonstrated the AQ spirit by being super welcoming, supportive and friendly!”

Heather Rogers, one of the AQ volunteers added, “It was so great to chat to people who were so genuinely impressed by who we are an what we stand for.”

The Adventure Travel Show is definitely the place to research your upcoming trips or to discover somewhere completely new, and we really enjoyed our time there.
